Perfectionism & Anxiety

Perfectionism doesn’t discriminate—it can hinder athletes chasing their next goal, gifted students overwhelmed by expectations, professors striving for unending academic excellence, and CEOs leading with the weight of their organization on their shoulders. No matter your field, the pressure to achieve can be suffocating.

Never Feeling Good Enough

Your high standards push you to achieve remarkable things, but they also leave you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and stuck in a loop of “what ifs.” Anxiety tells you to prepare for every possible outcome; perfectionism tells you it’s never good enough. It’s a cycle that’s hard to break on your own.

Therapy offers a space to rework this cycle. We won’t just deal with the symptoms, we will get at the underlying causes. We will challenge the unhelpful patterns and build tools to help you eliminate that constant fear of not being good enough and so that you can start living a life that better reflects your values—not your fears.

Procrastination and Perfectionism:

Do you find yourself putting off starting or finishing tasks? Feel overwhelmed with how to start? Perfectionism often disguises itself as procrastination. You delay starting because the standards feel overwhelming or you stop mid-way because it never feels good enough. It can’t live up to the pictures in our head.

This cycle doesn’t just waste your time, it can burden you with anxiety, guilt, and shame—none of which helps you meet your goals and deadlines. Together, we’ll uncover what’s fueling these patterns and build strategies to help you take meaningful action without fear of falling short.

My approach focuses on helping you:

  • Set realistic and healthy expectations

  • Break free from the all-or-nothing thinking that keeps you stuck

  • Build practical strategies to tackle tasks with confidence and purpose

  • Develop self-compassion and manage the “I’m not enough” thoughts

At Exceptional Guidance Center we will untangle the complicated dynamics of perfectionism, whether it’s showing up  as procrastination, burnout, overachievement, or relentless self-criticism. You’ll learn to recognize some of perfectionism’s symptoms, like fear of failure, imposter syndrome, or a high need for control—and work on building healthier habits.
